When Should Anti-Fatigue Mats Be Used?

Anti-fatigue products provide more than just physical benefits for heavy duty workers. It helps with their performance, aches and pains, morale, and overall readiness for work. Ideally, all work surfaces should benefit standing workers by providing a safe and comfortable working environment. Figuring out which anti-fatigue mat should be used is based off your work environment, foot traffic, and budget.

Work Environment:

No workplace is created equal, and neither are our mats. Medical, general manufacturing, food service, and fulfillment all have unique needs ranging from standing up to small chemical spills to preventing the growth of dangerous microbes. Consider the main factors a mat would be exposed to before purchasing.

Foot traffic:

Determining the area you need to cover can save money in the short-term and long-term. If your worker is standing in one place most of the day, a stand-alone anti-fatigue mat is the right choice versus a pricier, larger or custom option. However, if they are walking up and down an assembly line, you will save money buying the correct custom mat to begin with rather than trying to adapt the wrong mat to your workspace. As for frequency of foot traffic, some of our options hold up well with lighter foot traffic and other products are made for 24/7 workplaces.

Budget:

Small but cumulative effects like increased productivity, decreased aches and pains, increased morale, and decreased absenteeism should make you think of anti-fatigue mats as investments, and investments cannot be made without consideration of the budget. If working with a smaller budget, it’s important to put emphasis on doing the most good for the most people. The areas where workers stand for lengthy periods of time and slippery areas are good places to start.

Overall, each of these factors plays its own part when anti-fatigue mats should be used. Each company is different, and so are your workers! It is important to be properly educated on the varying styles and benefits of anti-fatigue matting. In a perfect world, there would be anti-fatigue matting for every worker. We don’t live in a perfect world, but we can help you get started.
